Brahea Armata (Blue)
Brahea Armata is the type of palm that you can find in Baja California. It’s an ornamental plant, even though it does have a fruit. Usually, the Brahea Armata will have a height of around 15 meters and it also features a stout trunk. You will find that it has some blue leaves and these can have around 1-2 meters wide. Out of this, the long petioles have around 1 meter, to begin with.
The Brahea Armata leaves are very persistent and they tend to form a shag right near the trunk area. That alone makes this an amazing and visually astonishing plant. Moreover, it’s a widely spread endemic plant that you can find in the modern peninsula. It’s rather common to find the Brahea Armata in the canyon bottoms, arroyos, but you can also find it in rock crevices and at very high elevations too.
The thing that makes Brahea Armata so interesting is the fact that it delivers a tremendous visual appeal, especially when it’s young. Even if it’s tolerant against drought, the Brahea Armata does require some watering here and there in order to stay alive. It can handle full sun, but it also grows very well in the case of partial shade too.
Brahea Armata had its seeds eaten by the Cocopah people, something that goes to show the potential nutritional benefits that this plant can offer. However, modern people just use the Brahea Armata for decoration. The plant looks great, especially when it’s young. That alone goes to show just how impressive it really is to have this type of plant, and the results on their own are rather incredible, to say the least. So yes, the Brahea Armata is an amazing, distinct plant that you will appreciate a loot. However, getting one can be the tricky part!
